Contd.. Tips on being your own tailor...

Hey,hey, hey everyone, trust you had a peaceful weekend.I know you would have been waiting patiently for me to go on with this series..... Brace uuuuuuuuuuuup.......(in a high opera voice...lol, dont tell me you just practised my voice act.....lol).... Anyways I have alot in store for you. But before I take a head on,am sure you have gotten all that I enlisted for you? So sorry on the delay, the weekend has been really busy for me; taking orders, rounding up outfits for weekend parties and all that a designer needs to keep the eyes rolling(lol, some clients are just wonderful....hahaha). Got some people sending me emails and messages on facebook and twitter, thank you for the encouragements buh please can you place your comments here? hmmmm,so many will be encouraged at your fashion tips....lol(remember keep trying, never be afraid to make mistakes).
Yes to the matter at hand... Am sure sumone already sees herself makin her next wedding party outfit....lol(hmmmmm, hold ur horses....)
First of all, would want to talk about the measurement... Mind you these tips are just for you to make a sharp-sharp amendment or a simple day to day outfit... Please oooo, before you start running off to organise a fashion show make few for yourself and your best friends and if they love it enough to flaunt it anywhere, then we're ready to hit the road....lol. This is just for you to come in handy given any emergency situation,it isnt fashion 101.... rather lets just call it Ophelia 0.101. Having said that, I'll advice you get more materials and write ups on fashion and designing if you really wanna go further, this just 'the timid girl tips on being your own tailor'(in my style network TV voice.....)
All I'll be giving to you here are just basic elementary do it yourself tips.
So,so,so.......our matter for today...
MEASUREMENT:
To emphasize more on the reason for this post,I'll be giving you the basic necessary measurements you need to make an easy outfit. They are listed below
  • Shoulder(shld): also known as back measurement. This measurement is taken from your right shoulders,to your left shoulder or vice versa

  • Breast/Bust/Bst: Getting the circular estimate on the roundness of the chest. As seen below;note that it is always better for the tape to be loose(not too loose,to prevent oversize) on the body so as to get a final proper fitting.
  • 1st Waist/Top Waist/ Wst: This is circular measurement of the waist just underneath your bust. This measurement is peculiar for making styles with umpire cut.

  • 2nd Waist/ Bottom Waist/ Wst:  This is also another circular measurement of the waist right on the belly botton position.
  • Sleeve Length/ Slv L: This measurement  is gotten from the shoulder to any position you desire on your arms.

  • Half Length/ 1/2L: Measurement is achieved from the top of the shoulder to any length under the bust. Depending on what you're making, this length can be directly under the bust or on the belly button. It is usually used as guidelines for making waistbands and waistlines for either tops or dresses. This length is also applicable for skirtbottoms with joining at the knee, usually skirt styles that require a flay pattern or cut at the end tail of the skirt. The joining is at the knee so as to let room for easy movement of the legs.

  • Hips: The circular measurement made on the hips.

Now I know you may be wondering about making bottoms..... right? Well its the same apllication, the only difference is the start point of the measurement. Unlike dresses and tops where measurements start from the shoulder;measurements for bottoms start from the waist.(the 2nd waist). The hips is measured the same way for tops, dresses and bottoms.

I hope these tips are useful. Get ready for my next post.......... would advice you go get a fabric......wink,wink.
I'll be looking forward to your comments.... laterssss, xoxo

Basic Ratings of Designs by Ophelia

Halooooo,am most certain your  week has been fantastic. If it has'nt then take notes of d flaws, creating remedies as well(do it now ooo..... I'll wait for u b4 I continue....lol) and if it has been all that you planned for it to be,please I need to start having some classes with you,I won't mind learnin.....lol. Having done that, let's proceed. Please Kindly refer back to previous post(Creations of mine)to view pictures from last year photoshoot. I can take orders here if you're interested in getting any of the pieces. Just so you know.... my pieces are rated as thus:
-Essential(made for only 10 people in the world)
-Variety(crafted  for 30 people in the world)
-ROTM-Run of the mill(made in 100 pieces or more)-what is generally referred to mass production.

I'll like to stress it to you that the last rating,Rotm( refer to it as that because I don't see my clients as the masses) usually comes out as essentric,it has its own variations too,I mean its not possible for Ophelia to stick to  one design.....
